Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast that usually involves an infection caused by a bacteria. It generally occurs within the first three months of nursing, but can also occur in women who are not breastfeeding. Symptoms include breast pain, swelling, thickening of breast tissue, skin redness and/or warmth, fever and a general feeling of malaise.
